Allen Hurns joined the Dallas Cowboys with a two-year contract. He started 42 games in Jacksonville where he played four seasons. He had 21 touchdowns and 2,669 receiving yards as a Jaguar.
The Dallas Cowboys were in the market for a receiver, and they opted for Allen Hurns, who became a free agent when Jacksonville Jaguars cut him. The Cowboys were hoping that Hurns could fill the No. 2 receiver spot. While Terrance Williams has been solid for the Cowboys, he only managed to earn 840 yards in five seasons. The team wants to get more options for its passing game as Dez Bryant slowed down and Jason Witten at tight end nears his retirement.
Good Addition to the Team
Hurns is a good addition to the team, although there are some people who have some doubts. He enjoyed a good rookie season, and then had 10 touchdowns and 1,031 yards in 2015. The Jaguars signed him with a four-year contract that was worth $40 million, but he only managed to get 477 yards in 2016 and 484 yards last year. The slump in his yards earned was due to injuries, running a run-first offense in 2017, and inconsistency from the quarterback. On the plus side, Hurns is only 26 years old.
With the addition of Hurns, the Cowboys have one of the pieces to build an offense around quarterback Dak Prescott. However, the team still needs a few more players to help the team reach the top.
Hurns will be wearing jersey number 17 to honor the 17 shooting victims in Parkland. He was born and raised in Miami, Florida, which was just an hour from where the shooting incident took place. It is the first time he is playing for a team that’s not from Florida.
