The 49ers are now the proud owners of the No. 9 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft after a coin-toss against the Raiders a few months ago landed in their favor.
Toss coins for draft placements do not happen in the NFL as often as most people think. Because both the 49ers and Raiders finished with 6-10 records and a .512 strength of schedule, both teams had to have a coin-toss at the most recent NFL Combine in Indianapolis to determine who will pick ninth and tenth respectively.
Former Raider and 49er Rod Woodson was responsible for the coin-toss at the Indiana Convention Center that landed the 49ers the ninth pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
The result of the coin-toss is huge for both teams. Though it's only one pick ahead, the 49ers have a significant draft advantage especially when both teams have overlapping needs; both are looking for cornerbacks, linebackers, and edge runners.
There are plenty of possible talents available once the 49ers and Raiders pick ninth and tenth respectively at the 2018 NFL Draft. This includes Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, Iowa cornerback Josh Jackson, UT-San Antonio pass rusher Marcus Davenport, Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward, as well as defensive ends Arden key (LSU) and Marcus Davenport (UTSA).
The 2018 NFL Draft will be held from April 26 to 28 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This is the first time that the draft will take place in an actual NFL stadium. It also marks the first time in history that the draft will be held in Texas.
