The Buccaneer's Doug Martin scratched after team rule violated

Buccaneer's Doug Martin was a healthy scratch for Monday, December 18th's game against the Falcons. This apparently happened due to a violation of team rules regarding a meeting.  At least this is what Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times has reported.

Apparently, that incident is minor and of no consequence.  He is expected to get back to the lineup for the final two games.

It was the Tampa Bay Buccaneer's coach who confirmed the scratch after the 24-21 loss to the Falcons.  "It's done. That's just one of those things that unfortunately has to happen from time to time," Koetter said, regarding Martin. "It's behind us now, and that's all I'm going to say about it."

Previously, Martin had missed a game while recovering from a concussion.  In the week 14 loss to the Lions, he drew the start at running back.  He was benched for fumbling after playing only 19 snaps.   It was thought that his absence in the game against the Falcons was related to his struggles of the past weeks.

But it appears it was an off-field transgression that was connected to it. Coach Koetter did not seem to give it much importance at the time.  However, the question remains if in this year, will he be in the opening games as a full starter.

This seems to be a bit unlikely especially how Peyton Barber has been performing recently.  So, chances are that Peyton could potentially be started over Douglas Martin.

To the scratch from Monday's game, one must add the four-game suspension that Martin had on charges of violating the league's drug policy.   In only three games, Martin made total 402 yards and scored three touchdowns for a struggling Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

In the last three games, however, Peyton Barber has averaged four yards per carry, while Martin has a rather bad 2.8 yards per carry in his last eight appearances.
