You are probably viewing Cam Newton’s situation from a wrong perspective and that’s why are actually screaming with your hands held high asking yourself how the quarterback can actually be worth $20 million a year.
When it comes to Newton, who recently signed an attractive 5-year contract that is worth $103.8 million, the main question is not whether or not he deserves to be in the class of some of the best and well played players in NFL. And its also not whether or not the Panthers should have given him a contract that is around $12 to $15 million or the fact that they didn’t have any choices when it comes to giving him a contract that is a bit less. But it all came down to the fact that if they ended up losing Newton then they will be faced by the option of picking a new replacement for Newton and we all know how the traditional college feeder system has over the couple of years offered scarce powerful quarterbacks.
Due to this particular fact, the Panthers opted to go with Cam Newton who just proves to be the best bet. By doing so, they avoided joining other NFL teams, which have fallen for such a move including Miami Dolphins, who struggled with the top player Ryan Tannehill earlier last month, the Cincinnati Bengals with Andy Dalton back in the summer and finally Colin Kaepernick’s situation with the San Francisco 49ers in 2014.
