Harbaugh proud of Joe Flacco

After Flacco led the Baltimore Ravens to an impressive 30-17 wild-card victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, Ravens coach John Harbaugh declared him “the best quarterback in football” for the second time this week.

Joe Flacco did not earn this praise lightly. In the Raven’s first playoff victory, Flacco finished the game with a 114.0 passer rating. He completed 18 of 29 passes for 259 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Harbaugh was ecstatic that night, saying “We’ll take him any day of the week, twice on Sunday or Saturday if that be the case."

The star quarterback has excelled this postseason. It is a huge improvement from his early career. Before this postseason, Flacco never threw for 4,000 yards in a season, and was never voted to a Pro Bowl. His career high is 3,986, and in NFL terms, that only makes him 12th-best in the league.

Nevertheless, the quarterback’s play has certainly impressed Harbaugh, and it only seems to be getting better. In the playoffs, Joe Flacco has thrown 166 straight passes without an interception. This is one of the longest continuous passes streak in NFL’s postseason history.

In the Pittsburgh game, Flacco improved to 10-4 which is two more than any other quarterback. In his last five games, Flacco has thrown 13 touchdowns with absolutely zero interceptions. This may be reason enough to call Joe “the best quarterback in football.”

Joe Flacco’s Ravens teammates are just as awed by Flacco’s consistent success. “The situation may change, but we don't. Joe didn't change,” linebacker Terrell Suggs commented. “That’s his game.”
